Dan Baker
Research Director

Dan Baker is TRI's principal market analyst and co-founder.  During the past 21 years, he has authored dozens of syndicated research reports and white papers on telecoms software and systems. 

These reports span the breadth of telecom B/OSS and assurance systems: wireless and wireline billing systems, revenue and fraud management, OSS/provisioning, customer care/CRM, service assurance and test, and telecom analytics.

In recent years, Baker continues to write research reports, but has also become an avid blogger and interviewer of telecom industry experts.  He began writing byline columns for B/OSS Magazine and special reports for Vanilla Plus.  Then in 2012 he launched Black Swan Telecom Journal, an on-line magazine focused on business assurance, fraud management, and analytics.  In 2014, he started up Telexchange Journal to cover the market and isues around for wholesale and partnering systems for the digital ecosysem.

In recent years, he has analyzed telecom markets of great complexity.  For instance, in 2014 he authored a 500+ page study of Telecom Analytics & Big Data Solutions. Then in 2015, he wrote a 239-page report on Telecom Fraud Management Software, Services & Strategies, an area that had never been comprehensively covered by other analyst firms. In January 2016, he will finish another full-scale study on Telecom Wholesale & Interconnect Software & Systems.

Baker has presented his research findings in conferences and private briefings in Asia, Europe, and South America.  For instance, he spoke at Capacity's Wholesale Fraud Forum Europe in London.

Baker is a former market analyst at Venture Development Corporation (VDC), where he tracked the telecom and real-time computer markets.  From 2004 through 2008, TRI sold its research reports exclusively through Dittberner Associates and Baker was the research director for the Dittberner OSS/BSS KnowledgeBase.

Baker has a Philosophy degree from the University of Notre Dame.  After college he served as a shipboard officer in the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. This gave him the opportunity to travel widely through Asia and live for three years in Japan, a country he regards as his second home.

Eric Priezkalns

Eric is the editor of Commsrisk and a recognized expert on communications risk and assurance.  After a successful full-time career, Eric now splits his time between occasional consulting projects and his many other passions.  Eric was Director of Risk Management for Qatar Telecom and has worked with Cable & Wireless Group, T-Mobile UK, BSkyB, Worldcom UK and other telcos, as well as advising software developers and system integrators.

A former editor and founder of the revenue assurance blogging site talkRA, Eric was lead author of Revenue Assurance: Expert Opinions for Communications Providers, published by CRC Press.  He was a founding member of Qatar's National Committee for Internet Safety and the first leader of the TM Forum's Enterprise Risk Management team.  Eric currently sits on the committee of the Revenue Assurance Group. He is a qualified chartered accountant, with degrees in information systems, and in mathematics and philosophy.

David Leshem
Senior Research Analyst

David Leshem is TRI's senior research analyst and has extensive international experience in solving the financial and competitive challenges faced by telecoms and banks.

He has delivered major business efficiency and profit margin improvements through marketing and financial solutions he has championed and implemented. Many of the projects he has managed required his translating new business requirements into practical technical and business architectures to drive advanced analytics with a clear ROI.

He is also the Founder and Executive Vice President of Compwise, a software firm focused on Telecom Business Intelligence and Customer Profitability.  There he was responsible for all facets of the company, including strategic planning and partnerships, creation of business models, investor relations, P&L responsibility, plus mergers and acquisitions.   The company was sold to Ectel who was subsequently acquired by cVidya where the former Compwise product suite remains a linchpin of its analytics solution portfolio.

Leshem's track record includes collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Global Risk Management Services division providing financial, consulting and advisory services to telecom and banking clients.   Special systems he has deep experience in include: telecom OSS/BSS, core banking, smart grid billing, credit cards, payments, CEM, CRM, and BI/analytics.
